This was an eventful troop meeting where many of the scouts got to start working on the cooking merit badge. Scouts revisited fundamental cooking techniques, discussing topics such as knife safety, proper food handling, and effective meal planning. The emphasis was on building a strong foundation for safe and efficient cooking.Senior scouts or adult leaders demonstrated specific cooking skills related to the merit badge requirements. This included techniques like chopping, peeling, and using various cooking appliances like the different types of camping stoves. A brief discussion on the importance of food safety and hygiene, covering topics such as cross-contamination, proper storage of perishables, and the importance of clean cooking utensils. Scouts participated in hands-on cooking activities, working in small groups to prepare simple yet nutritious meals. Some of these included making pancakes, trail mix and quesadillas. This allowed them to practice the skills they learned and gain confidence in the kitchen. Overall, the troop meeting was a success as scouts not only got to hone their cooking skills for future campouts, they also got to complete parts of the cooking merit badge.
