Jon Kissane, Eagle Scout and Scout parent, hosted a swimming merit badge outing at Foothills Tennis and Swim Club for T4057 and T57 this past weekend. Five Scouts completed their rank requirements for Swimming and the BSA swim check, and earned the swimming merit badge! Two other scouts were able to complete some outstanding requirements and also earned the swimming merit badge. The swimming merit badge is one of three options to complete Eagle requirements, along with hiking and cycling. It includes many challenging tasks including survival swimming/floating, swimming and throwing rescues, and a 150 yard continuous swimming demonstrating five different strokes. All Scouts worked hard to satisfy the requirements, and eventually all came away successful! Special thanks to Mr. Kissane for hosting and testing Scouts on this great outing! Many scouts will use these skills at Summer Camp and go on to work on the Lifesaving Merit Badge, and the BSA Lifeguard certification.
