Summer 2007 Canoeing Trip

Canoe team During the third week of August, a group of senior scouts took a high adventure trip to the Northern Tier canoe base in Atikokan, Ontario. There were 16 in our group, and we divided into two crews. Crew ‘A’ tackled White Otter Lake and Clearwater lake. Crew ‘B’ went after the Turtle River and Eltrude Lake. It was five days of marvelous solitude, paddling against the wind, learning to portage canoes with one hand, line and run rapids, climb over beaver dams, lash together canoes to sail with the wind, tack to fight against the wind, as well as catch a 32 inch Northern Pike and some bass. We ended up with a day in Thunder Bay, Ontario to see Fort William and a Native American powow. It took an extra day to get back due to summertime airline difficulties, but the trip was worth it.
