Troop 57 Foothills Park Habitat Maintenance Project
Posted by asm_group on February 21st, 2008 filed in Community Services, Announcement
Please join us in a Troop 57 volunteer work day at the Foothills Park on Sunday, 3/9.
We will assemble at Orchard Glen in Foothills Park at 9 AM, then take a short hike to the work area. Park personnel will brief us on the targeted invasive species. We will remove the targeted plants, then hike back to the assembly area by noon. The event is worth three hours of service credit.
Scouts twelve years or older and their parents may participate. Please print out the release form in this document, ask your parent to sign it and bring the signed form with you to the assembly point. To reduce traffic, please car pool with other scouts in your patrol. Wear light colored long sleeves/pants and a cap to protect yourself from poison oak and ticks. Uniforms are not required. Bring some drinking water and garden gloves.
Directions to assembly point
Foothills Park is located about 7.5 miles/20 minutes from the Scout House. The entrance is 2.7 miles west of Interstate 280 on
. At the entrance gate, if you are asked, tell the Ranger that you are volunteering with the Friends of Foothills Park. After you enter the park, stay left, drive past the lake, down the hill and take a left to get to the Orchard Glen area. CN Pow from Troop 57 will meet you at Orchard Glen.

Scouting for Food 2007 Recap

Scouting for Food 2007 was a great success for Troop 57. Troop 57 collected the most food of any other troop in the Stanford District by far, over five thousand pounds. That’s over two and a half tons of food to feed the hungry. I started off the morning at the Scout House with Patrol 6 at quarter to nine. We split up our territory between the two drivers and drove to our territory. We hit the streets by nine and were picking bags of food off doorsteps, left out for us to collect. However, many houses did not put out their bags as instructed on the door hangers we left the week before. We rang doorbells for the houses where there were no bags and often we were given food. We were all done by eleven thirty after a morning of walking the neighborhood. We loaded up the cars and headed for the LDS Church on Middlefield Road. There we dropped off our food. For most people, the morning was over, but not for me. I had volunteered to unload cars and weigh food at the church, so I got out and started on my second duty of the day. For the next three and a half hours, we unloaded cars that had come to drop off food and weighed the food. We then loaded the food into crates and then into trucks. Like last year, we filled up the first truck so we needed to call for a second truck. However, we didn’t have enough crates to put the food in, so we started putting the food into bins, smaller than crates, like the ones at the supermarket. We soon filled up these too, and we started putting the food in on the floor of the truck. Overall, this was a great year of Scouting for Food. This was a record year for Scouting for Food in the Stanford DIstrict, 43,482 pounds. Thank you to all Scouts who helped feed the hungry.

Dear Patrol Leaders and Lead Patrol ASMs,
We have a wonderful opportunity to sponsor a great humanitarian community service project. This is the scouting for food project that you have so faithfully supported in past years. This is a great way for the entire Troop to be involved in an activity that serves those less fortunate. Please download the following instruction and maps.
